The next step is to rough out the arching for the top and back plates. First, the edge height is scribed around the sides of the plates using a marking gauge. Here, I am initially marking the edge height at 5mm, but it will be reduced to 4.0mm-4.7mm later:
Once the edge heights are marked, the rough arch is created using large gouges and small planes:

At this point, the rough arching for the top is complete, and further refining, smoothing, etc. will take place later after the purfling is installed. I will post a similar sequence of photos once I have finished rough arching the back plate.
You are really speedy! I wish I could carve with that much confidence. I will be interested to hear how much harder it is to do the maple back. I have not gotten that far yet. You're blog is a really valuable resource for us waanabees out here. It might make a really great book when you are done.
