Ole Bull - First Layer of Colored Varnish and Scroll

The first layer of colored varnish have been added, although there are many steps and lots of antiquing to go:

Alf Studios Blog

In order to broaden my blogging horizons a bit, we have just launched a new Alf Studios blog at http://blog.alfstudios.com, which will expand upon the content in this blog, highlight a number of exciting events coming up in the studio, and feature items of interest to string musicians, violinmakers, and others who have an interest in string instruments.

Upcoming events that will be covered on the blog include the Ole Bull Del Gesu Project in Oslo, the Celebration of Ole Bull in Bergen, the First China Violinmaking Competition, and the Oberlin violinmaking workshop.

For those of you who have been following the construction of my Ole Bull violin, you may be interested in seeing one of the first posts on the Alf Studios blog, which shows the Ole Bull inspired violin that Gregg recently made for Dextra Musica in Norway.

Ole Bull Body Assembly

The body of my Ole Bull violin is now assembled and ready for colored varnish and antiquing:

Ole Bull Ground and Sealer

With less than a month to Oslo, the plates and ribs of my Ole Bull violin now have the ground coat and sealer applied:

The body of the violin is now ready to be assembled first thing next week, the colored varnish will be added and the instrument will be antiqued to look like the original. As for the neck and scroll, I am finishing up a neck graft and some other final touches before the neck and scroll join the other pieces of the violin.
