Rough Cutting the Second Turn and Eye of the Scroll

It is time to return to the scroll and rough cut the second turn and eye.  As with the first turn, the second turn is roughed out by making several cuts with a Japanese saw:


The rough cut of the saw is cleaned up using a gouge and file:


The eye is then roughly cut using a gouge:


Here is the roughed second turn – still lots of work to do to make everything symmetrical and even, before undercutting and adding the chamfer, which will all be covered in future blog entries.
