Inspiration from Hilary Hahn

Although this post is a bit of a diversion from the violin making process that I have been describing, it is very much related to the inspiration for my apprenticeship, so I will share it with you. As a birthday gift, I traveled to Chicago to see an absolutely phenomenal recital by Hilary Hahn, with Valentina Lisitsa on the piano. As I expected, the recital was technically flawless.

The program (although not in this order) was as follows:

Ysaye - Two Sonatas for Unaccompanied Violin (Nos. 2 ans 4) and Reve d'enfant

Brahms - Seven Hungarian Dances

Ives - Three Sonatas for Violin and Piano (Nos. 1, 2, 4)

Bartok - Romanian Folk Dances for Violin and Piano

This recital was especially meaningful for me, as it was in part my discovery of Hilary's recordings that reignited my love of the violin in the last few years, and thus inspired me to build violins. It is an experience that will continue to inspire me as I continue in my apprenticeship.
