The neck is shaped using several rasps and files. The objective is to obtain a curved surface on which the fingers cannot detect any irregularities.
With the rough work complete, the neck is finished with finer files and several grits of sandpaper to a smooth and glossy finish:

ReplyDeleteAs a player (not wonderful) The finish and shape of the neck is really where the rubber meets the road. You can't make it too slick for me.
